Charlotte Observer revokes endorsement of Jim Pendergraph for Congress in NC-09

May 4, 2012 by Betsy Muse

Well, I'll be damned. Jim Pendergraph has gone birther on us. When I saw the headline in the Charlotte Observer this morning I just shook my head and went about my day. I had my suspicions because of his close relationship with Sue Myrick, but Jim up and gave us proof.

From the CharO:

So what does Pendergraph, and for that matter other 9th District candidates, think of Obama’s legitimacy?

Thom Tillis's Sex Shop

May 2, 2012 by Betsy Muse

Apparently, Thom Tillis is running a sex shop at the State House in Raleigh. A second staffer has resigned after having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a lobbyist. Information available does not indicate whether either party is married to someone else.

The staffer is identified as Amy Hobbs, a policy analyst. The Charlotte Observer identifies the lobbyist as Charles Plunkett based on a client list offered by Tillis.

Slow blogging day

May 1, 2012 by Betsy Muse

Today is another family day. Youngest had an award ceremony this morning and I had errands to run for the oldest in preparation for her return home. Yay!  I pick her up Friday in Chapel Hill.  I honestly can't wait!

Tonight, I am taking Emily for another college visit being held in Charlotte for Yale, Brown and (I believe) Columbia.

I'm sorry I don't have time to write today. I have enjoyed all of our email conversations and I understand many of you don't want to post publicly, but you do give me ideas, so keep the emails coming.

Five McCrory donors referred to DA for possible campaign finance violations

April 29, 2012 by Betsy Muse

Oopsy Daisy. It looks like some of Pat McCrory's Charlotte friends may have had a hard time obeying very basic campaign finance laws when making donations to his campaign back in 2008. We're not talking about part of the law that needs interpretation by an attorney, either. This is very basic and anyone with a 6th grade education and a desire to obey the law should be able to get it.

Don't make a political contribution with money that doesn't belong to you. That's it. Very easy. Very simple. No interpretation necessary.

Thom Tillis, you lying sack of hypocrisy

April 27, 2012 by Betsy Muse

Oh, no, no, no, no, no, Thom Tillis. It doesn't work that way. You don't get to have one set of rules for one group of citizens and another for your white, anglo-saxon, Republican, heterosexual buddy. It just doesn't work that way.

Adultery is one of the top ten. You know, one of those BIG sins. One of the sins carved into stone and sent down from a mountain top straight from the mouth of God.

Long list of Dems line up for Mecklenburg At-Large County Commission

April 26, 2012 by Betsy Muse

A long list of Democrats have lined up to run as at-large candidates on the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners. A few of the names are familiar, but most are newcomers to Mecklenburg County politics as candidates.

Nine Democratic Candidates for Mecklenburg At-Large County Commission AGAINST Amendment One

April 26, 2012 by Betsy Muse

The following nine candidates for the three At-Large seats on the Mecklenburg County Commission have offered these statements against Amendment One. We will have full reviews of all 12 candidates soon, but have separated out these statements in order to promote these candidates and their stand against discrimination. I will update this post if I hear from the remaining three candidates.

Pat Cain Cotham

I am against the amendment. I do not want to write discrimination into our Constitution.

Remembering the Charlotte O's and Crockett Park

April 24, 2012 by Betsy Muse

I don't remember the exact date of the last Charlotte Orioles game I attended at the old fashioned, wood frame baseball stadium in Dilworth. It wasn't walking distance from my home, but close enough that it felt like a neighborhood stadium and team. The Charlotte Knights want to move back to Charlotte. The stadium they want to build is anything but an old fashioned, wood frame stadium at a neighborhood park. In comparison, this is the big leagues.

Gardening Day and Research Assistance Requested!

April 21, 2012 by Betsy Muse

Today is going to be another day spent in my garden before the rains set in. I have plants bursting out of the peat pots I planted the seeds in months ago and they are turning yellow for lack of nutrients. Politics will have to wait.

My next post is an analysis of the Democratic At-Large slate for the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners. Some have web sites and some do not. Please leave a comment or contact me through the form linked under the blue bar above this post if you would like to share information on any of the candidates in the race.

Another look at Ortega's Tweets [Update]

April 20, 2012 by Betsy Muse

In yesterday's post I mentioned a tweet from Adriadn Ortega I saw directly following David Parker's press conference. In this tweet Ortega said:

Ann Coulter on black Republicans:

“That’s why our blacks are so much better than their blacks,” Coulter said. “To become a black Republican you don’t just roll into it. You’re not going with the flow...."
